Cutting fluid selection based on tool material of CNC machine
For broaching, tapping, deep hole drilling, high precision and high strength processing, proper cutting fluid is to be chosen to ensure the quality of processing. We develop one selection reference based on the material of cutting tool for your cutting fluid selection reference.
High speed steel tool
In CNC machining center for high speed rough cutting, since the cutting amount is large and produce a lot of cutting heat, so it is better to adopt water-based cutting fluid with good cooling performance. If the high speed steel tool is used for medium and low speed finishing, oil-based cutting fluid or high concentration emulsion is generally adopted, which can help reduce the friction bonding between the tool and the workpiece, to inhibit the formation of cutting nodules, and improve the accuracy of processing.
Tool steel tool
Due to the heat resistance temperature is in 200 ~ 300 celsius, the tool steel at high temperature is easy to lose hardness. So this kind of steel adopts good cooling performance, low concentration of cutting fluid.
Ceramic tool
Diamond tools and cubic boron nitride tools, with high hardness and wear resistance, CNC machines generally do not use cutting fluid, sometimes water-based cutting fluid can be used.
Hard alloy tool
Due to the high melting point, high hardness, chemical and thermal stability is good, cutting and wear resistance is much better than high speed steel tool, oil-based cutting fluid is used in ordinary processing. For heavy milling, the temperature is very high causing the tool wearing very fast, CNC machine operators should pay close attention to and increase the flow of cutting fluid to ensure sufficient cooling lubrication.
