Prototype surface treatment - sandblasting selection
In mechanical manufacturing process, including prototyping industry, sandblasting is a very common and very mature surface treatment technology, such as: Mold sandblasting to remove mold cutter grain, rust, or get rust prevention function; Plastic mold factory to do fine etching; Sandblasting before oxidation; Work-piece sandblasting to remove burrs or paint not needed, etc. We Accu have more than 10 years in prototyping industry with rich sandblasting surface treatment experience. We have put together our experience of using it for the benefit of our readers.
Application scope of sandblasting:
Hardware, aluminum alloy sandblasting de-rusting, glass sandblasting (mist effect), plastic sandblasting (de-flashing), acrylic sandblasting (mist effect), PC resin surface treatment, casting work-piece sandblasting, zinc alloy sandblasting (rough surface), stainless steel sand blasting, metal paint or metal pieces welding scar removal, etc.
Acrylic sandblasting:
If the customer requires very foggy surface, general sandblasting glass is workable. If the requirement is higher, you can choose white corundum. If the requirement is not very foggy, glass beads with a certain transparency must be choose. Sometimes a little glass sand is added to glass beads, a little transparent can be received.
Stainless steel sand blasting:
Generally need to know what the stainless steel panel is, what surface (polished or brushed, mist, roughness, etc.) is expected. Brown fused alumina and white fused alumina can be chosen for general requirements. For special requirements, glass bead and glass sand should be used. .
Die casting:
Sandblasting is mainly used to remove burrs. Low alloy steel, generally it can be used for shot blasting machine. Medium alloy steel, use cast steel shot steel ball causing less surface scratch or the scratch is shallow and small. For the removal of surface dirt and thick work- piece, steel sand should be chosen, generally can consider the mixed use of steel ball and steel sand. If you want to make sandblasted aluminum color whiter, should consider the use of high cost of stainless steel shot.
Common sand types on the market:
Emery sand, brown corundum sand, white corundum sand, black corundum sand, glass beads
Common specifications of sand:
30# 60# 80# 100# 120# 150# 180# 220# 320# (the larger the size of the number, the smaller the sand, vice versa).
