What are common prototyping sheet metal materials?
There are many sheet metal materials suitable for prototyping, commonly used are: cold-rolled sheet SPCC, hot-rolled sheet SHCC, galvanized sheet SECC, SGCC, copper, aluminum plate, aluminum profile and stainless steel. Different materials have different wear resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, welding performance, etc., which must be taken into account when sheet metal manufacturing.
(Remark: S for Steel；P for Plate, E for Electrode position, G for Galvanized；C for Cold；C for Common、D for Draw、E for Elongation)
There are seven commonly used sheet metal manufacturing materials include:
- Cold rolled plate SPCC: mainly used for electroplating and baking paint parts, low cost, easy to form, material thickness ≤3.2mm
- Hot rolled plate SHCC: material T≥3.0mm, also with electroplating, baking paint parts, low cost, but difficult to shape, mainly with flat parts
- Galvanized sheet SECC, SGCC: SECC electrolytic plate is divided into N material, P material; N material is not used for surface treatment, high cost, P material for spraying parts
- Copper: mainly used for conductive materials, its surface treatment is nickel plating, chromium plating, or no treatment, high cost
- Aluminum plate: generally with surface chromate (J11-A), oxidation (conductive oxidation, chemical oxidation), high cost.
- Aluminum profile: materials with complex section structure, widely used in various boxes. Surface treatment is the same as aluminum plate
- Stainless steel: mainly used without any surface treatment, high cost
