Vacuum heat treatment application in prototyping industry 

Vacuum heat treatment technology is a new heat treatment technology developed in recent years. It can prevent heating oxidation and non-decarburization of products, vacuum degassing or degassing, eliminate hydrogen embrittlement, and thus improve the plasticity, toughness and fatigue strength of materials (parts). Factors such as slow vacuum heating and small temperature difference between inside and outside parts determine the small deformation of parts caused by vacuum heat treatment process. 

According to the different cooling medium, vacuum quenching can be divided into vacuum oil quenching, vacuum gas quenching, vacuum water quenching and vacuum nitro isothermal quenching. Vacuum heat treatment is mainly used in vacuum oil quenching, vacuum gas quenching and vacuum tempering. In order to maintain the excellent characteristics of the work-piece vacuum heating, the choice and formulation of coolant and cooling process are very important. Oil cooling and air cooling are mainly used in the hand-plate quenching process. 

For the hand plate working face that is no longer machined after heat treatment, vacuum tempering is used as far as possible after quenching, especially the vacuum quenched work-piece (hand plate). It can improve the mechanical properties related to the surface quality, such as fatigue performance, surface brightness, and corrosion, etc.

The successful development and application of computer simulation technology of heat treatment process (including microstructure simulation and performance prediction technology) makes the intelligent heat treatment of hand plate possible. Due to the small batch (or even single) production of prototype, the characteristics of many varieties, as well as high requirements for heat treatment performance and do not allow the characteristics of waste, and make the intelligent heat treatment of hand plate become necessary. Prototype intelligent heat treatment include: clear hand's handmade mould structure, material, heat treatment performance requirements heating process computer simulation of temperature field, stress field distribution of hand-board cooling temperature field, phase transformation process and the computer simulation of stress field distribution of heating and cooling process simulation of quenching process of heat treatment equipment automation control technology. Foreign industrial developed countries, such as the United States and Japan, have carried out the technology research and development in vacuum high-pressure gas quenching, mainly aiming at prototyping industry.
